2 Corinthians 4:1-2

2CO 4:1 Therefore, since through God's mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. 2 Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

ICB: Training Men to Impact the World
The church visible and invisible was built first on the fraternity or brotherhood of men better known as the Twelve.  This band of brothers left all to follow Jesus Christ and it was upon their confession and profession of faith that the ekklesia, the called out ones, were organized.  There is then no other sure foundation for true fraternity than the One Lord Jesus Christ and there is no greater evidence to the world that his love is still with us today than men demonstrating brotherly love and serving the world as He instructed.

Yet, where is this kind of brotherhood visible in our world?  Is it only seen by those who attend a local church, a local men’s meeting or a men’s conference?  Can the world really see how much we love one another and how much we want the world to know Jesus Christ as the Only Lord and True Savior?  Where are the real bands of brothers who are corporately lifting up the name of Jesus Christ as the only name given under heaven whereby we can be saved?

Since the Twelve, at various times, ways and places, men of God have gathered together in the unity of brotherhood and received from God an overflowing anointing to affect change in their society.

And now by God’s wisdom and power, the International Christian Brotherhood has come for such a time as this to impact the world for Jesus Christ.

Empowering Men
One of the original intentions of the college fraternity, particularly the African-American college fraternity, was the empowerment of the developing student so that he might be fully equipped to be successful in the world as a professional in spite of the obstacles.  The training for these young men began with their pledge process through which they were trained in the purpose of the fraternity, trained to represent the organization and forged into brothers committed to that fraternity’s vision.

Though ICB follows a “fraternal” model, the foundation is Jesus Christ and so there are aspects that are refined and redefined in order to glorify God and edify Christian men.  The ICB pledge process is a challenging and rewarding means of beginning the process of training men without the secretive, shameful, and in some fraternal organizations, anti-Christian ways of “empowering” men (2 Corinthians 4:1-2).

At the same time the fraternal model demands that Christian men operate at a level of unity and excellence that is worthy of our Lord and a contrast to the disorganization and mediocrity the world has often come to expect from the church and other Christian-based associations.

Through the fraternal model, ICB instills men with a sense of being a part of something much greater than themselves aligned with a purpose that is at once personal and corporate.  While Jesus Christ is always the first and most important common denominator for the men, the pledge or application process begins to (bond) cement the men together as brothers by providing a common vision and purpose that crosses every single barrier.  ICB’s purpose is to train men in Christ-likeness as the standard for manhood.  This purpose unites men from every walk of life who recognize their need for training and God’s calling to train other men.
